Mission
Statement: 99 for 1 exists to serve the under-loved in our city and
beyond by showing the love of Christ in practical ways and by training
others to do the same. We will seek to befriend the sinner and the
saint by sharing with them that which God has provided to us and through
prayer for their afflictions. Above all, we will show those who see us
how true Christians live.

99
for 1 Ministries In Action: You can help us make a difference!

Who
Volunteers Their Prayers, Time, Money and Personal Items to Help Others?
If
you’ve ever wondered what type of person
volunteers their prayers, time, money and personal items to help others,
hopefully this newsletter will answer that
question.
The month of
March was filled with opportunities to help people from all walks of life
and, thanks be to God, volunteers with 99 for 1 Ministries were able to be a
part of ministering to those in need.
The first part of
March found our ministry helping three families with clothing needs. This
would h ave
been nearly impossible had some of our college-aged volunteers (pictured
Right) not decided to help out earlier in the year and sorted through
hundreds of pieces of clothing.
Plus, we put out
a call to have a car repaired and that was answered by James B. his wife
Chantelle (James is a board member of 99 for 1 Ministries — Pictured Left).

Food
was delivered to several families thanks, in part, to a very godly family —
the Fondrens and the Smiths — and a terrific man of god, Elton Clark.
Together these fine folks donated pounds upon pounds of meat, eggs and dried
goods that allowed 99 for 1 Ministries to feed nearly a dozen families in
the months of February and March alone.
Rides
were given to people who needed to get to work, go to the hospital, to the
store, and to just ‘get out of the house’ for awhile by several of our
volunteers! Some of our volunteers took people as far away as Louisiana
even though in order to do so they had to miss time from work.

A couple of
our more senior volunteers, Bill W. and John K., from the Eastern Shore,
showed up at hospitals to pray for those who were (and some who still are)
infirmed. Bill and Pastor Lonnie met last year when Bill was in a local
hospital for open-heart surgery. In Bill's words, “When
this young man walked into my room I had no idea who he was. But, he smiled
when he came into my room and acted as if he and I were old friends. In
minutes I felt as though he really cared. After a few more visits during
the next week or so, I knew that he really cared. I couldn’t help but to
fall in love with Pastor Lonnie and his ministry. So, I got John (I call
him George) to start helping me go into the hospital and pray for people.
You know, for a non-Baptist, Pastor Lonnie isn’t such a bad guy — haha.”
Melicia
and Gary Morris (Gary is a former member of our Board of Directors) not only
donated money but they gave several items to our ministry that were, in
turn, given out to different boys, girls, men and women who were in need.
Gary and Melicia are both representatives for Juice Plus (products as a
cancer survivor Pastor Lonnie definitely supports) and they’ve given
generously of their time, their money and their prayers for the continued
service that the Lord uses 99 for 1 Ministries for.
Paul
and Jaime Thagard (of Acord Financial Services) have dedicated themselves to
serving the Lord through both their prayers and their financial donations.
Pastor Lonnie states, “I’ll
tell anyone, without hesitation that Paul and Jaime — Jaime serves as the
Treasurer of 99 for 1 Ministries — are two of the greatest assets the Lord
has placed in 99 for 1 Ministries path. They’ve been part of us since the
beginning and, quite frankly, without their willingness to help others we’d
be nowhere near the non-profit ministry we are today.”

When we got a
call that a gentleman needed a bed to sleep on, the first person we received
notice from that she had a bed was Thann Morris (Secretary of 99 for 1
Ministries). Shedonated a trundle bed (the kind with drawers on the bottom)
and a new mattress and box springs. Thann has supported 99 for 1 Ministries
since before we were actually a ministry. Her insight, her prayers for
those we minister to and her kind heart has helped us mightily.

On
March 24th, a bunch of us got together and went to ‘Tent City’ to have lunch
with the folks who live there. Robert (pictured at left) and his wife
Laurie (pictured right with Steve — one of the homeless) made 40 sandwiches
that we then coupled with tea, water, Gatorade and oranges. The outing was
terrific. In fact, The Current, the college group that went with us has
invited another college group to go to Tent City on the 14th of April to
clean-up Tent City. Mind you… these are ALL volunteers (most of whom are
under the age of 27) who are serving the Lord by Living Jesus Out Loud — in
other words they are walking the walk and not just talking the talk! Below
are just a few pictures of those who went with us and those we met!

Jeff F. (who is
an active Coast Guard pilot — Yay!), helped Pastor Lonnie move a bed and a
chair from our storage unit so that the people who needed them could be
comfortable. We’re so thankful that Jeff and Rossana (his wife) have become
part of the 99 for 1 Ministries family. Last year they adopted a Dachshund
that was at Tent City because the couple who had him wasn’t going to be able
to provide the care he was going to need during the winter months. He is
now safe, happy and surrounded by the love of 3 Chihuahuas.

Of course,
there’s not enough words of praise to heap upon our two social workers —
Stacy H. (R) Carolyn W. (L — Pictured with her husband Shane)! These two
ladies are diligent and very hard working and we can say, without fear of
contradiction, that their efforts make what we do seem easy!
